Static Advantages: Material

This is a typical example of what can we do when we are up a pawn. The saying exchange all pieces to stay with an extra pawn will lead to a scenario similar to the one on the board. White's extra pawn is on the queenside where there is a majority of two versus one pawns, so White will create a passed pawn there eventually. First things frist, the knight should be brought in the center and only then a passed pawn will be created, after which the pawn will be used as decoy, distraction for the opponent's pieces, when our king will proceed to the kingside to capture the opponent's pawns. Note that this is why White doesn't want to exchange pawns on the kingside, because later on, White's king will be able to capture more pawns for free.
